National News: Raghopur has long been the crown jewel of the Yadav family’s political legacy. Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, and now Tejashwi Yadav have all represented this seat. In 2010, BJP’s Satish Kumar Yadav stunned many by defeating Rabri Devi, but he later lost to Tejashwi in both 2015 and 2020. Once again, Satish faces Tejashwi, while Jan Suraaj Party has fielded Chanchal Singh, making Raghopur one of the most keenly watched contests of this election.
Mahua is back in focus as Lalu’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav makes his comeback. He first won from here in 2015 before moving to Hasanpur in 2020. Now, he faces Mukesh Kumar Raushan, the sitting MLA and RJD’s candidate. This unusual face-off within the family party adds drama. Meanwhile, Chirag Paswan’s LJP (R) has nominated Sanjay Singh, ensuring a triangular contest that could decide Mahua’s political future.
Sheohar remains a politically sensitive constituency with a history of swinging between parties. Last held by Chetan Anand, son of Anand Mohan, the seat now sees RJD’s Navneet Jha, grandson of former Union Minister Raghunath Jha, stepping in. JD(U) has announced Shweta Gupta, while Jan Suraaj has fielded Neeraj Singh. With strong local undercurrents and three-way competition, Sheohar promises a tightly fought election battle.
In Siwan district’s Raghunathpur, RJD has made a bold move by fielding Osama Shahab, son of the late Mohammad Shahabuddin. This marks Osama’s electoral debut and Lalu Prasad’s attempt to revive the family’s influence in Siwan. The CPI(ML), once bitter opponents of Shahabuddin, have declared no conflict with his family now. Osama will challenge JD(U)’s Vikas Kumar Singh (Jishu Singh), making Raghunathpur one of the most dramatic contests of 2025.
The 2025 Bihar elections highlight how deeply family legacies continue to shape state politics. While Tejashwi and Tej Pratap represent the continuation of the Yadav dynasty, newcomers like Osama Shahab symbolize a generational shift. Yet, each of these candidates faces strong rivals determined to break into these bastions. These fights will test whether loyalty to family names can withstand the wave of change in Bihar’s political landscape.
Despite being partners in the INDIA bloc, RJD and Congress will lock horns in constituencies such as Vaishali, Lalganj, Warisaliganj, and Kahalgaon. RJD has announced 143 candidates, Congress 61, CPI(ML) 20, while VIP has been given 15 seats. Such “friendly fights” could complicate the alliance’s strategy, opening opportunities for NDA candidates to exploit divisions within the bloc.
With elections spread across two crucial phases, Bihar’s political temperature is already soaring. Every constituency tells a story — of legacies, rivalries, comebacks, and betrayals. Raghopur tests Tejashwi’s hold, Mahua pits brother against loyalists, Sheohar signals new political heirs, and Raghunathpur revives a controversial legacy. Together, these high-profile battles will not only decide the fate of individual leaders but also shape the direction of Bihar’s politics in the years to come.
